Alcohol causes premature babies

Experts say, women who drink too much alcohol in early pregnancy, perhaps before they were aware of her pregnancy, a higher risk of premature delivery.
A study of 4719 Australian women shows, nearly 80%, the risk is higher in women who drink too much in the first 3 months of pregnancy, although then it stops.

Dr. Colleen O'Leary, from the University of Western Australia, as well as the study leader said, women who drink alcohol too much exists at the highest risk of premature delivery.
"Women should be advised that drinking excessive amounts of alcohol will increase the risk to the baby and do not drink alcohol during pregnancy is the safest option."
Professor Philip Steer, editor of the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, emphasized that this study is a warning to women. "When considering the number of unplanned pregnancies, there is a possibility that while aware of her pregnancy, everything has been delayed and the fetus had been destroyed."
